4. In the last paragraph of his report, the Principal Civil Medical Officer states that the appointment of a trained midwife would be desirable in connection with the proposed lying-in wards of the Tung Wa Hospital, and that she should be under the orders of the Resident and Visiting Surgeons. Before the wards are completed the recommendation of the Principal Civil Medical Officer will be considered.
5. Under these circumstances the appointment of a Lady Doctor in Hongkong does not appear to be necessary at the present time.
